Today we interview Julia Baumela, Information Security Consultant. We hope you enjoy learning about her experience working at our company.
What is your role at Inprotech?
I am an Information Security Consultant, within the GRC —Governance, Risk and Compliance— and Data Protection area. On a day-to-day basis, I help organisations understand their risk exposure, comply with regulations and build a solid security culture.
What would you highlight about Inprotech as a company?
Without a doubt, the variety. No two projects are alike, and that keeps you in a constant state of learning. Every client brings different challenges and that pushes you to keep growing. You never get stuck in a rut.
What has Inprotech meant for your professional career?
It has been a gateway into the world of information security. At InprOTech I have been able to put my knowledge into practice. I have learned an enormous amount here — the team has taught me, supported me and given me the confidence to keep growing.
How do you manage to balance your personal and professional life?
Inprotech makes work-life balance easier. The hybrid working model helps you maintain a more manageable routine, because it gives you the flexibility you need to organise your day-to-day life.
Tell us an anecdote that happened to you at Inprotech
Once, my cat decided to gatecrash an internal meeting as if it were perfectly normal. He appeared on screen completely unbothered, strolled in front of the camera and instantly won over the whole team. From that day on he was officially christened the Secretary of the Information Security Department.
What do you value most about working at a company like Inprotech?
The flexibility, the constant learning and the team. The three go hand in hand. In this sector you can never afford to stand still, and here you always have opportunities to grow. But what really makes the difference is the atmosphere: the team is warm and close-knit, and you feel that every day.
As an employee of a company specialised in cybersecurity, what is your advice for any business owner just starting out regarding their systems?
Don’t leave security until later. Cybersecurity is often treated as something secondary, something to be dealt with down the line, and the reality is that it shouldn’t be that way. The ideal approach is to have professional support from the very beginning, rather than waiting for problems to arise before starting to think about it.
What are your hobbies after the working day?
I really enjoy switching off with reading and playing the piano. I also try to keep active, whether that means CrossFit training or escaping into nature whenever I can.
Who do you “nominate” for us to interview next, and why?
I nominate my colleague Bruno, from the sales department, to share his perspective.
