Inprotech Human Capital: Jaime Souto

Interview

Today at InprOTech Human Capital, we introduce you to Jaime Souto, R&D developer at InprOTech.

What is your role at Inprosec?

I am a developer at InprOTech, the industrial security branch of Inprosec. Specifically, I work on SANTI, the brain of our industrial traffic monitoring system, InprOTech Guardian.

What would you highlight about Inprosec as a company?

We take care of everything related to SANTI and InprOTech Guardian, from the software development itself and project coordination with our collaborators, to the deployment of technology and product support in our clients’ plants. Being involved in several levels of the project is quite satisfying, as it allows you to have an overall perspective and see the progress.

What has Inprosec meant for your professional career?

It was important in two ways. First, it allowed me to return home after several years working as a researcher abroad. Also, it opened the door to industrial cybersecurity, a vast field with much to do, where I entered with everything to learn. Not only because it’s super interesting in itself, but I also appreciate the fact that we are contributing our bit to something very necessary: whatever the future holds, it seems we won’t stop being an industrial and connected society to a greater or lesser extent.

How do you manage to balance personal and professional life?

I join the popular sentiment by highlighting the company’s conciliation policies, which give a lot of margin to fit both aspects. In my specific case, it’s completely fundamental, living next to Coruña with two very young children at home, who really appreciate the help with breakfast, showering, dressing, and all the other etceteras.

Tell us an anecdote that has happened to you with Inprosec

When you start working in this field, you quickly confirm the suspicion that computer security is often overlooked at the slightest opportunity. Still, I didn’t expect to find myself, just a few months after starting work, sitting in front of the computer of an industrial plant manager, alone in his office with the session open for me to make some checks on the equipment we had just installed. I still get goosebumps thinking about that notebook next to the keyboard, wide open with what seemed like passwords!

What do you value most about working for a company like Inprosec?

Being in contact with a sector that does important and relevant work, which allows me to continue training, has good conciliation policies, and a very good work environment both horizontally and vertically.

As an employee of a company specialized in cybersecurity, what is your advice for any entrepreneur starting with their systems?

Since the vast majority of successful attacks are due to unforced human errors, I believe that training is essential, as it will at least achieve alertness. It is fundamental to take seriously the risks of maintaining a system with negligent security today.

What are your hobbies after a working day?

I don’t live them as hobbies, but I enjoy spending time with my people, taking walks in the mountains to watch birds or spending a whole day at the beach until sunset, eating and cooking. I also really enjoy listening to music, reading, and watching movies and series, but who doesn’t!

Who do you “nominate” for us to interview next and why?

I nominate Alberto Mato Cimadevila, a colleague from SAP.
